As I was scanning my TV Bible this morning, I noticed that the networks have yet again trotted out The Ten Commandments (filmed in 1956!) and The Sound of Music (filmed in 1965) for our family viewing pleasure. Why do they do this?? It's Easter! Neither of those movies have a thing to do with Easter. Nor do they have a reference to Christmas, but they are rolled out then too. I guess since the Ten Commandments are Bibical, they could just lop them over to cover any religious holiday, but you know, that story is all about the Jews and their deliverance from slavery in Egypt. Jesus does not appear in this story at all. And, The Sound of Music? I just don't get that one. And, every time I watch it (which is very rarely!) I sing that do-re-mi song in my head until I am nuts.
I'm just saying.

Where Have I Been???
Got an e-mail from a friend yesterday that said, "Where are you??? You haven't been blogging or anything. What's going on with you?" My answer is, "Gee, I don't know, but is it spring yet??" I think I got bogged down with this slop-over season stuff: hot one day, cold the next, wind that blows your hair off, etc. My closet is in chaos. What to wear??? I am just weary with it all.
Scrapping table is still sitting there with all that papertrash piled all over the place. Sis and family are back from the cruise so I am waiting for her to get her act together and her pictures printed so we can start up again. I have a few things on the back burner that I want to do, but for right now, that business is on hold. Whenever I can't get content with a project or something working, I read a lot. When I get twitchy reading and wish I were at the end of the book - then it's time to start a project. I think I may just feel a twitch coming on.
So, I am still here, where I always am, doing pretty much what I always do. As the song says, still crazy after all these years.

Such a Blessin'!
Friday night we went to see Favorite Granddaughter perform in the spring play at her school, and I don't know when I've laughed so much. The play was entitled "Dearly Departed" and set in a small town somewhere (the accents were definitely East Texas) and depicts how a slightly disfunctional family deals with the sudden death of Daddy. This was the shortest part in the play cause Daddy dies in Act 1, Scene 1 - and the young man did a very fine job of it. Granddaughter did not have a speaking part per se, but she did get to let out a quite piercing scream.
All the kids were fantastic. I am always amazed at what they can do, even adlibbing on occasion if a piece of equpment malfunctions. A lot of these same kids were in the Shakespearean production performed in the fall, in which they sprouted Shakespearean dialect without a bobble. This play they had that twangy country accent down pat. I'll probably be talking that way for a week. Of course, we all have somebody in our family who really does talk like that! It was thoroughly enjoyable and so funny. Kinda like those guys that do the Tuna, Texas things. Of course, it was all the more enjoyable because Granddaughter was in it and she is the cutest one - always. She played a bratty little girl, which was really acting because she has never been bratty in her entire life. To borrow a line from the play, "She's just a blessin'!"

A Valentine No-No
Both Bubba's Dad and Bubba learned a valuable lesson from me: don't ever give a woman an applicance for a gift-giving occasion. Bubba actually learned by observing the reaction from me when his Dad made the mistake of doing this one Christmas. That experience has made of Bubba a most excellent selector of gifts to thrill his wifey's heart. And, the Daddy is still alive to shop again.
The Sears man came yesterday and said the last rites over our 24 year old refrigerator which has been making alarming noises for quite some time now. So, today, off we go to Sears to see if we can find an exact copy of the fridge we've had for all these years. Just a plain vanilla fridge, folks. Nothing coming out the door or anything - just plain. Found one. Took me about 5 minutes to decide. It is almost the same, but it's black. Now, I ask you - why would fridge designers or whatever they are, think that women would be attracted to a large, black box sitting in their kitchen??? Even weirder, I think, you can now get a washer & dryer in all sorts of exotic colors: red, blue, teal. What is that???
Anyway, I made sure that the nice little Sears guy knew that this was NOT my Valentine present. This was just a necessary purchase made only because of the decline and upcoming demise of the one I have. Since they can't deliver new one until the 22nd, let's just hope and pray the demise doesn't come before then.
And, Dad has one more day to shop for an attractive little bauble to delight my heart. Lucky man!

A Conglomeration of C's
Bubba's Sis and D... are playing this fun game so I'm playing along. If you want to play, too, here's how you do it: Tell me by leaving a comment on this post, and I will assign you a letter. Then post ten things you love that begin with your assigned letter on your blog. Explain the rules with your ten things and when others comment requesting a letter, assign one to them; thus, the chain continues.
Bubba's Sis gave me the letter C - so here goes:
- Children (mine)
- Charlie (my sweet doggie)
- Cardinals (the birds, not the ball team)
- Champagne (yum! bubbly!)
- Cross Stitching (I'm a very cross stitcher sometimes.)
- Cinema (love movies!)
- Clothes (Can one ever have enough??)
- Catalogs
- Christmas stuff
- Country music (the real kind)
